Macro Friday

Since I learned to knit socks on circular needles a few years back and with the encouragement of blogger Yarn Harlot, I love to always have some on the go.  It is such an easy project to put in a handbag and add a couple of rows anywhere.

I knit, some of you know that.

What occured to me the other day is that I can call myself a "clothes maker".

I make clothes for babies, ladies and gentlemen. :)

I am particularly pleased with the finished project above.  I bought the wool in the sale just after Christmas and finished it in just over a week.

Socks with You!

I have taken a liking to knitting socks, I started those yesterday and finished them today.  They are quick and easy and help me with learning to finish projects. 

These will be very comfortable in wellies or boots to keep me nice and warm.

Little nothings with You!

That's what hands are for! All hand made with pleasure to please and spoil.

The dripping of the rain is constant with You.

The big melt is on the way, now with the rain, we have warning of flash floods. This weather is made for me to stay in although I braved it and went for a big grocery shop which I had not done since way before Christmas.

I am probably really boring with my knitting projects that I keep taking photos of but I find it makes me accountable (please refer to a previous post about : procrastination ) to do it this way and I have finished more projects in the past few weeks that I had in a long time, hence the photos.

When I get a "bee in my bonnet", You are there!

This is the result of the cold weather, the sales, the "bee in my bonnet" and a desire to finish what I started, mind you knitting on 20mm needles did help.

This only took me 4 days. I love the finished product.

I guess another way of describing the "bee in my bonnet", is when I can think of nothing else but the project I am working on, I just have to get on with it. The energy involved is invigorating.

"What" I hear you think? What have socks to do with the Festive season?

Just wanted to show what I did Christmas afternoon, whilst everybody was gathered in the living room, chatting, watching TV, playing games, I knitted socks, finished them and I am very pleased. They are my first pair ever so bear with me you excellent knitters if you spot the mistakes!!!

They are modelled by my youngest daughter Chantal, who often says "I want to be a top model", so I thought I would opened the door to this very demanding job for her in a gentle way!!!

What is on the agenda with You today?

Early monday morning, very cold but we are inside.

I used the time to finished my knitted jumper. I am delighted.

One little outing in the snow in the car was enough. The weather has turned quickly and the snow started falling again from 5pm onwards.

I have Colin on the road doing well for most of the way, but crawling at 15 m/h about 4 miles from home. That took him an hour to arrive safely.

I am becoming very aware of the nearness of Christmas day. Every blog I look at seem to have list of some sort, should I make one?

With this weather maybe I should get on and get my turkey???

Today I enjoyed watching Domino Day with You!

Those guys are fantastic, I got into Domino Day a few years back and always look forward to the extravaganza it has become on television. Nearly 5 millions dominoes fall over to form various patterns, this year the theme was the seven continents: Africa, Latin America, Europe, Oceania, Antarctica, Asia, Northern America. It takes the domino builders weeks to set up all the dominoes, they even have to fumigate twice the warehouse where it all takes places, cockroaches are their enemies and can ruin weeks of works in seconds. They did beat their previous record of last year and employed new techniques. I was entertained.

I had decided because of the rain that I would stay inside. But I never can watch television for the sake of watching television, I feel as if I am wasting my time, so I also knitted whilst watching the show. One of the aims I had for this year was to finish projects, especially knitting ones. This brings me onto the subject of procrastination in a way, the question I am left with is: When I have a hobby am I accountable to anybody or not and is it all right to start projects and not finish them?

Somehow I believe that I am not the only one who like starting new projects and near the end in my case I am so reluctant to finish, I have tried in vain to encourage myself, make myself do it, visualise the finish product, still I have many projects unfinished...

What is robbing me of winning the trophy of a race well run and finished? Hence accountability? In the different roles that we assume daily we are more or less accountable to the people surrounding us, but in our own little world: activities that we do solely for ourselves, are we accountable? If I do not finish this or that project, if I am only accountable to myself and if it is solely for my pleasure that I am doing it why do I feel guilty if it is not finished after a while, a while obviously set up by myself.

I come up with no satisfying answers to spur me on. I toy with the idea that my notion of perfection robs me of the finished product. If it is not looking a certain way I will not like it so maybe it is better to leave it as a project instead of pursuing it to the end and be disappointed?

My best should be good enough.

I should take a leaf out of the finisher's book: Finish what I have in hand, even if it hurts me. Picture myself as a marathon runner, hitting the wall and persevering, in a sense I am making myself accountable right now to my written word!!!

Aujourd'hui c'est Lundi avec Toi!

Will it stay sunny or will it rain? The holiday are fast approaching and I need to book a hotel for us for the way down!!

Really struggled for a photo today and I left it too late so just some knitting guys!

Today I was at a Creative Memory workshop with You.

I have eased myself in this bank holiday, the weather is warm and sunny, Friday evening Colin and I even walk along the river Lee in Hertford till late and the air was balmy. We saw enormous fishes, the fishing season is over so I guess the fishes are feeling safe!! I also think they were courting and laying eggs. We ended up having a bite to eat in Brasserie Gerard. The place was buzzing with all ages. Very pleasant evening.

Today the workshop was fruitful. I have been scrapbooking since 2000 when I first went to a workshop one evening and I absolutely loved it, it meant my love of photography and paper art could go together and I had found an outlet to be artistic. 12 albums later I still enjoy it very much. My style has changed with fashion but also with what is more practical for me.

This evening we had a BBQ, nothing too complicated just the smell and taste of grilled meat is wonderful. It was also warm enough to eat outside and the birds were giving us a concert.

And if you have been wondering why so little postings this week it is because it has been a quiet week, I have hardly been on the computer because I am knitting a lot: finishing projects. I will photograph and post in the future.
